Surgeon's
Quarters
Officer's Quarters 10, also known as the Post Surgeon's Quarters, is assumed to have been constructed in 1870. The structure appears to have been atypical of the other officer's quarters, including slight variations in the floor plan and porch design. Otherwise the exterior and interior appearance is believed to have been similar to the other quarters.
In 1904 the Quarters burned and in 1905 the remaining walls were razed for construction of East Avenue D and part of the foundation was covered by the street. Presently the only remnant of this structure is the partially uncovered foundation which is bisected by Ave. D. Reconstruction could be considered presuming Ave. D could be removed from the fort site. Future consideration should be given to the reconstruction scheme. This site could be used as conference and resource center.
