From the Medical Records of Dr. William Notson Post Surgeon

Early in the month, the new post was subjected to an inspection from Bvt. Brig. Genl. J. L. Bingham Q. M. U. S. A.  Understanding after its completion, that he had ordered almost a cessation of work at the post, and the finishing of the men's quarters without porticoes, I addressed to him a letter, as sanitary officer, asking for their retention on the following grounds.  A prevention against these inflamations of the eyes so prevalent last year; the advantage of the additional rain collecting space; and protection of the windows of the sleeping quarters, from hailstones.  Some modification was subsequently made of the original order....
